How to create
your own "Basic" popups

Q. What is a popup ?
A. It's a shortcut command for mIRC that is activated by your mouse.

Q. How do I use one ?
A. Select a persons "nick" from the right hand column of the channel window you are in by clicking ONCE with your left mouse button. Once the nick is highlighted depress the right mouse button and scroll to the word slap and then release the mouse button.

This should now appear in the channel window : * Yourname slap's NICK around a bit with a large trout.

Q. How do I make my own ?
A. You need to open your popups area in mIRC. You do this by selecting :

1. "Click" TOOLS at the top LEFT hand corner of your mIRC

2. Scroll to POPUPS in the little list of folders that appears and release the mouse button.

3. Select VIEW from the editor menu bar of the window that opens

4. Scroll to NICKNAME LISTand then release the mouse button again.

Now you should have a large window like this that is titled mIRC Editor.
Dont worry about the rest of the scripting in there , just scroll down to the bottom where you see Slap!:/me slaps $$1 around a bit with a large trout.
We are going to use this code to create a new slap. First , make a new line under the slap popup by placing your mouse at the end of the slap line and hitting enter. Now copy and paste this into that new line.
Poke:/me pokes $$1 in the eye..Thats for staring at $me

Poke: is the name you have given your popup and is what you will see with your right mouse button. /me makes your popup an "action popup. The $$1 will insert the nickname of the person you have highlighted and the $me will insert your nickname into the popup.
Once you have done that , "click" OK and return to the channel and try your new slap.

The result should look like this :* YOURNAME pokes NICK in the eye..Thats for staring at YOURNAME.

More helpful Identifiers ( insert codes )
Identifiers are the things that make the popup or any mIRC scripting work ie $$1 etc.. that you can see in the above graphic .When you insert this data into your popup, make sure there is a space either side of the code ( identifier ) or it will not work !!! You can find a full list if you type /help identifiers in mIRC.

Adding colour to your popups

Either while you are creating your popups or after you have finished them , you can then add colour commands to them.
Place your mouse into a section of your popup you would like to change the colour and by holding down the "Ctrl key on your keyboard ( extreem bottom left ) and then striking the "K" key once , will bring up a colour box that has all the colours and numbers relating to the colours. Select a number and then continue typing OR move your mouse to another area to colour.

Lets use your new popup as an example:

Poke:/me pokes $$1 in the eye..Thats for staring at $me
* YOURNAME pokes NICK in the eye..Thats for staring at YOURNAME.

Lets add some colour codes :

Poke:/me ( Ctrl K 3 ) pokes ( Ctrl K 4 ) $$1 ( Ctrl K 3 ) in the eye..Thats for staring at ( Ctrl K 12 ) $me
Remember to have a space after "/me" and before and after the "codes" ( $$1 and $me )

Your popup should now look like this :
* YOURNAME pokes NICK in the eye..Thats for staring at YOURNAME.

Adding a background colour to your popups

This is easy , we just add a second number to the colour related numbers proceeded by a comma ( , )

Poke:/me ( Ctrl K 3,8 ) pokes ( Ctrl K 4,1 ) $$1 ( Ctrl K 3,8 ) in the eye..Thats for staring at ( Ctrl K 12,8 ) $me

and our popup now looks like this:

Making Popup Directories

If you intend to go mad making popups for slaps , hello's , welcome's and even welcome back's , you may want to consider making a directory for your popups.

In the mIRC Editor , make a new line and place a HEADING for your slap popup's called Slaps. We do this simply by typing the word SLAP on the new line and then placing all of you created slap popups under that heading. This time we will add a fullstop at the beginning of the popup name.

Now when you return to the channel and select a nick to slap , a selection of your slap name's will appear in a second box , just move your mouse across to the slap title and release... Its that simple.

Now that you know how its all done , it's up to you to be as creative as possible and make your own original popups to *wow* other people. Enjoy !
